The new season of the Danish Superliga gets up and running this weekend and the first visitors to the reigning champions Midtjylland’s MCH Arena on Saturday afternoon are newly promoted Viborg. Hardly any surprise then that the bookmakers make Midtjylland clear 8/15 favourites to open the new season with a home win while the new kids on the block are priced at 9/2 although it is a bit surprising that the champions are not a much shorter price.
Midtjylland start the new campaign apparently in good form following two wins from three pre-season friendlies and fresh from Wednesday night’s 1-0 defeat of Lincoln Red Imps in the Champions League. Although the home side faltered a little towards the back end of last season, losing three of their last four Superliga matches, they should prove too strong for Viborg and the newly promoted side could be on the wrong end of a hiding. Midtjylland’s Martin Pusic and Morten Rasmussen contributed twenty-one goals between them in last season’s title winning season and the duo should prove a handful for Viborg on Saturday.
