Consider one of the longest-running transfer sagas of recent history and Wesley Sneijder’s reported move to United will surely come to mind. The Dutch midfielder was continually linked with the Reds throughout the latter stages of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, so much so that you couldn’t escape his name in the British press for months, yet the move never came to fruition and he later joined Galatasaray in 2013. <br /><br />After an intense week of training at St. George’s Park, FC Barcelona are looking to put their practice into action on Saturday when they take on Celtic in their first match of the International Champions Cup (7.00pm CET).<br /><br />At the disposal of Luis Enrique will be all but two of the players who travelled on Monday to the English FA’s facilities, as Adriano completed a move to Besiktas and Martin Montoya was given permission to leave the camp on Saturday morning. The manager, therefore, has eleven first team players to choose from, and 12 from Barça B.<br /><br />The majority of those who reached the latter stages of the Copa America and Euro 2016 are still on vacation, but one of those who cut their holidays short was Leo Messi, who is ready for selection.<br /><br />Aside from the familiar faces, the match also provides the manager with the chance of checking up on some of the youngsters who have joined the tour.<br /><br />On the opposing bench will be Brendan Rodgers, who coached Luis Suarez at Liverpool. Ajax are historical regulars among Europe’s elite clubs, but they have undoubtedly declined since their glory days. They are still regulars in the group stages of the Champions League though, with them making it that far in five of their last six seasons. They haven’t made it past the groups during this period though, with their most successful outing being a round of 16 appearance in the Europa League in 2014/15.<br /> Their 2nd place finish in the Eredivisie last season saw them fail to dislodge PSV at the top again, although there was just a two point gap between them at the end of the season. With the Eredivisie season kicking off the weekend after this tie is finished, Ajax will be keen to get their competitive season off to a good start as they look to reclaim the Dutch title.<br /> Ajax’ pre-season form has been rather patchy though. They have won two, drawn two, and lost one of their friendlies, although they haven’t lost a competitive match since an away defeat to Utrecht in December 2015. At home their unbeaten streak stretched back to October as well, so they are certainly hard to defeat.<br /> PAOK eventually finished 2nd in their domestic league as well. Olympiakos stormed the regular season as they dropped just five points in 30 matches, winning the title by a huge 30 point margin over 2nd placed Panathinaikos. But during the playoff round PAOK came back from a disappointing regular season to top the table and claim a runners up medal and a Champions League qualification position.<br /> This is the first time they have qualified for the Champions LEague since the 2013/14 season, but they have never made it as far as the group stages in this competition. Experienced and known expert David Moyes has been appointed as new head manager for the Saints and he will have his debut tomorrow. Basel did a decent game against Monaco (0-1) in their last game, but their finishing was not good enough in order to challenge them. Basel did pose a very strong team with both of their recent signings Mohamed Elyounoussi (from Molde) and Seydou Doumbia (on loan from Roma) in their starting lineup. However, it was not a surprise that Monaco won the game when looking at the possession of the ball. Basel was only aiming for counter attacks or exploit personal mistakes that were made from Monaco. FK Liepaja vs Salzburg - Preview

Latvian champions Liepaja surprised a few by only losing 1-0 in Austria, and now they might just might believe they can pull off a true shock by winning in their own back yard and securing a place in the next round. The bookies don’t fancy the hosts chances though with some offering just 17/2 on a Liepaja win and 2/7 on a victory for Salzburg, who are still huge favourites despite that narrow victory during the first leg. I have to say I’m also expecting a Salzburg victory, but I think we could be in for a really close game with possibly just one goal separating the teams come the final whistle. <br />Watford have made a solid if unspectacular start to their preparations for this coming Premier League season. Sharks v Eels: Schick preview

1. Bryce Gibbs starred when these clubs met in round seven, finishing with 30 disposals and three goals. The Blues had 36 more disposals and won the inside 50s 57-46. Wales vs Belgium: Preview

Belgium showed us why they are ranked two in FIFA rankings with the disciplined performance in the 4-0 win against underdogs Hungary in the round of 16 clash at the Stadium Municipal in Toulouse. The Red Devils had finally come to life after some unconvincing and inconsistent displays in the group stage. They were defeated by Italy in the opening group game, but bounced back with an excellent 3-0 win over Ireland, which was followed by a narrow 1-0 win over Sweden. However, Hungary were not expected to trouble them much in the knock-out clash and Marc Wilmots can take a lot of positives with the big win. He had specifically pin pointed the impressive performance of captain Eden Hazard, but we hope he like to see more of the same from Kevin De Bruyne in the coming stages.<br /><br />Wales were surprise toppers of Group B above England and Slovakia, much to the fantastic team effort and the excellent striking abilities of start man Gareth Bale. But they didn’t look as comfortable against a well-organized Northern Ireland in the round of 16. Wales were unarguably the second best team on the night and needed an own goal from Gareth McAuley to book the ticket to the quarter finals. At the same time, one cannot underestimate the fighting spirit in this unit and they have the ability to mount a big upset. The big positive for Chris Coleman is the fact that the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen had all come to the party, which will ease the pressure of Gareth Bale in the coming days.<br />Wales: Team News<br /><br />Chris Coleman is sweating on the fitness of his captain Ashley Williams, who collided awkwardly with team mate Jonathan Williams in the closing stages of the match against Northern Ireland. West Ham defender James Collins could get the nod if Williams is deemed unfit to start in time. Other than this probably forced change, the starting line-up is expected to remain the same as in the round of 16 clash.<br /><br />Marc Wilmots is likely to recall Yannick Carrasco into the starting line-up in place of Dries Mertens.
